AMSTERDAM, N.Y. — The new year brings new life as St. Mary's Hospital delivers the first baby of 2014 in the Capital Region.
Jerremiah Elias Ramos was born at 2:14 a.m. Wednesday weighing five pounds, 13 and three-quarters ounces.
Jerremiah surprised his parents by arriving three weeks earlier than his due date. However, that wasn't the only surprise, as mom Nyree Castro was previously told she couldn't have children.
"I was in shock. Everybody was jumping and I was just like staring at everybody," said Nyree.
"We got what we wanted," said Frankie Ramos, father.
Baby Jerremiah is healthy and for now, both parents agree he looks more like Dad.
