The snowfall we are seeing is making for slippery conditions out there. Many drivers have been sliding off the road and dozens of accidents have been reported since the storm started Thursday morning. Michael Howard tells us about the busy people who are there to get your car back on the road.
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- It’s a sight no driver, wants to see: Your car getting into an accident. To get it repaired or pulled out of a ditch, you’ll probably end up calling someone like Glenn Pascoe.
“There are a lot of accidents out there, it's very icy today. People shouldn’t even be out on the roads to tell you the truth,” said Pascoe.
The owner of Dutchess Towing was busy Thursday putting car after car back onto roadways due to slippery conditions, which is just the beginning of a very long couple of days.
“It’s very icy and cold,” said Pascoe. “And it’s going to be a very different storm than what were normally used to.”
The prolonged winter storm is bringing below zero temperatures. Sand that crews put down on the roads may not work, increasing the number of accidents, keeping Pascoe busy.
“With the cold and the wind chill, it’s going to be hard for the plows and sanders to keep up on this storm,” said Pascoe.
Where back in town, others were busy as well.
“We see all types of hits, cars off the road,” said Manager of Prestige Auto Body Rocco Cea.
At Prestigue Auto Body, workers were hard at work fixing some of those cars Pascoe tows. During a winter storm, Cea says it's one of the busiest times of the year.
“You see a lot of people that should have been staying home and don’t have good tires on their car and just slide off the road,” said Cea.
As for some advice for drivers taking to the roads, Cea and Pascoe both say the same thing.
“If they have to drive take it slow and easy,” said Pascoe.
“Slow down," Cea said. "Don’t be in such a hurry."
