Three people were shot, one killed, in two early morning shootings in the city. Maria Valvanis has that story.
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Around 2:00 Sunday morning police say a 20-year-old male and 16-year-old female were shot on the corner of Lexington and Elk st. Both victims are expected to be okay. But an hour and a half later, a third shooting victim wasn't as fortunate.
Police say a second shooting happened here on South Pearl street, and 30 year old Jamel Forbes, was killed.
"Officers arrived on the scene and found a 30 year old man shot, he was transported to Albany Med where he was pronounced deceased," said Steve Smith.
Investigators were scouring the scene on S. Pearl for hours looking for clues, and concerned neighbors want answers.
"It's horrifying, it's frustrating, you're tired of hearing of people ending other people's lives," said Mike Johnson.
Mike Johnson has lived in the South End for most of his life, he says it's more than a neighborhood, it's a community.
Johnson said, "I'm very concerned, because I have family down here and it just as easily could have been one of my family members, and either way it was someone's family member so its a loss for everyone."
Police aren't releasing the identity of the victim, or if they have any suspects.
But neighbors tell us the victim lived nearby, and was a father. Mayor Kathy Sheehan says the city is now counting on the community, to make sure another shooting doesn't occur.
"Having a safe city is key to having a healthy city and we need communities to be involved in demanding our streets are safe," said Mayor Sheehan.
Johnson said, "We have a church around the corner and were going to be doing more community things and hopefully we can help, that's all you can do, is keep trying"
Police are asking anyone with information to call the Albany Police Department.
