TROY, N.Y. -- After one year as Troy Police Commissioner, Anthony Magnetto will retire from the department.
He has served for 35 years in the department, and agreed to the role as commissioner on a temporary basis. Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia appointed Magnetto to help make improvements to the police department, and reduce crime in the city.
Troy Police Chief John Tedesco was critical of the appointment. He even hired an attorney, who said Magnettos' appointment was unlawful due to the city charter.
Magnetto says he always saw the position as temporary.
