ALBANY, N.Y. -- Today marks 10 years since Albany Police Lt. John Finn passed away.
Finn was shot in the line of duty on Dec. 23, 2003, while responding to an armed robbery call.
He died from his injuries two months later while in intensive care at the hospital. During that time, doctors at Albany Medical Center said he was given more than 200 pints of blood.
Blood drives are held each year as a way to honor Finn's life and service.
This year's Lieutenant John Finn Memorial Blood Drive is this Friday from 11:30 a.m. - 5:15 p.m at the Albany Elks lodge.
