NEW YORK STATE -- New York State Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman is awarded for his commitment to animals by the Humane Society.
This comes on the heels of the AG's office investigating what they are calling the largest cockfighting ring in New York history.
The Ulster County ASPCA removed up to 6,000 roosters and hens from a 90 acre farm in the Hudson Valley Sunday night.
Roughly 70 people were also arrested.
Schneiderman received the 2013 Humane Law Enforcement Award at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society Tuesday.
Along with preventing animal cruelty, the AG is also responsible for protecting people from unethical pet sellers.
"Defrauding families and obviously selling someone a genetically altered pet, it's not like selling a washing machine. There's lots of love that goes into these animals, there's a lot of heartbreak that goes along with unscrupulous dealers," said Eric Schneiderman, NYS Attorney General.
The Humane Society is the nation’s largest animal protection organization.
