Controversy has swept across the Orange County Republican Party. It's chairman, Robert Krahulik is accused of sending lewd pictures to a woman on the Internet. Time Warner Cable News Reporter Jessica Chen spoke to Krahulik and has the details.
ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Robert Krahulik of the Orange County Republican Committee has agreed step aside for 60 days as Chairman.
"I’ve agree to take a 60 day leave of absence as the Chairman of the committee," he said.
This, after allegations that he texted lewd pictures of himself to who sources said, was his girlfriend's friend.
"The allegations have been mischaracterized and I do not want to speak about the facts and details because it's a very personal matter, it’s my private life," he said.
On Tuesday, four other officers in the committee asked Krahulik to step down after the allegations broke. They say they're deeply concerned.
In a statement released, the committee said, "We're confident that Mr. Krahulik will do what's best for the Republican Party as a whole."
Krahulik's decision to step aside comes after dozens of members met Thursday night during their monthly GOP meeting.
"If he wasn’t the Chairman, there probably wouldn’t be anybody here tonight," said John Fallon, a member of the committee.
He expressed his concern with the allegations.
"He has a position of responsibility and certainly we as a party have to put our best face forward," said Fallon.
Though Krahulik has only held this position for a few months, he said this is not the end.
"I believe I am well qualified to serve as Chairman and I look forward to resuming those responsibilities in the future," said Krahulik.
