LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. -- The Lake George Park Commission approves rules that will require boat inspections.
It's all an effort to prevent invasive species from getting into the lake.
The regulations, which were approved Tuesday, will go into effect on May 15.
Under the new plan, all trailered boats entering Lake George will be inspected for any plant or animal material.
Boats that don't pass the inspection must be cleaned at boat washing station nearby.
The program will cost $700,000 a year to run with half the money coming from the state and the other half from advocacy groups and lakeside municipalities.
