LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. -- The Lake George Park Commission approved rules to require boat inspections. The effort is part of the prevention to stop invasive species from entering the lake.
The regulations were approved Tuesday, and will take effect on May 15. Under the new plan, all trailered boats entering Lake George will be inspected for any plant or animal material.
Boats that don't pass inspection must be cleaned at the boat washing station nearby. The program will cost $700,000 per year to run. Half of that money will come from New York State, and the other half is covered by advocacy groups and lakeside municipalities.
