REXFORD, N.Y. -- The New York State Department of Transportation held its first meeting on Thursday night to discuss plans to replace the Rexford Bridge.
The project also includes improvements to the Route 146 corridor connecting Rexford to Niskayuna. According to the DOT, more than 22,000 drivers cross the bridge every day. In order to accommodate the growing traffic, DOT officials say the bridge needs to be updated.
As part of the renovation, another roundabout may be built.
"Our analysis says we'll improve that flow with the two lanes southbound, one lane northbound on the bridge, with a roundabout on Aqueduct Road intersection at the Niskayuna side of the bridge, with additional lanes at the intersection of Riverview Road, so we're really trying to get traffic to flow better than it is now," said Bryan Viggiani, a spokesperson for DOT.
A second open house will be held January 30 at Niskayuna Town Hall.
