SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Two dozen people are displaced after a fire in Schenectady.
Firefighters were called to 1302 Lower Broadway around 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday. After arriving to the scene, crews found a fire on the second floor. It took nearly 30 minutes to extinguish, and the fire did not spread to other rooms.
The cause is unknown.
"It's not a very big fire, but it has displaced a number of people and it's a large building so it's not really complicated, but it is a little challenging," said Schenectady Fire Chief Michael DellaRocco.
The building has a bar on the ground floor, and upstairs there are rooms for rent. Upon request by the city, a CDTA bus transported those who were staying there to area homeless shelters.
