ALBANY, N.Y. -- The American Red Cross in Albany is sending some holiday mail to U.S. soldiers.
It's all part of the organization's Holiday Mail for Heroes Program. Community members wrote letters and cards to service men and woman stationed locally and overseas.
This year, the Red Cross received more than 78,000 cards.
"It is really important especially for those deployed to know that their communities are thinking about them. It is very difficult to be deployed over the holidays and even more so for young families that are home with someone deployed," said Dianna Rios, Specialist Services to Armed Forces for the American Red Cross.
After screening the mail, letters and cards will then make their way to troops.
